NATIONAL DAY OF ACTION TO DEMAND IMPLEMENTATION OF PEACE ACCORDS
---NATIONAL ACTION SHEET---
+++ Chicago March 25 Action +++
On March 25, join activists across the country to demand that the Guatemalan government fulfill their promises of peace. Either individually or as part of a local group, there are several ways that you can get involved. Whether you only have one minute to send an email or more time to organize a demonstration, your participation will support the efforts of Guatemalan grassroots organizations that are struggling for peace and reconciliation.
Fax, E-mail, Call for Change
You can use the attached letter to demand for the implementation of the Peace Accords. Contact the following people, asking them to pressure the Guatemalan government to de-militarize, abolish the EMP, and implement real judicial reforms, and protect human rights defenders. You can use the letter by itself, or treat it like a petition by gathering signatures in your community. Electronic versions of the letter are available at www.nisgua.org.
Who to Contact:
Your Members of Congress. Call the US Capitol Switchboard at 202-224-3121 to find out how to contact your Representative or Senator.

Demonstrate for Change
We are currently planning for Consulate actions in Washington, DC, Los Angeles,
Miami and Chicago. If you live near any of the cities and would like to attend
or help plan the event, please let us know and we can connect you to the
local organizers. If you would like to plan another action in your area,
there are several creative ways that you can grab your community's
attention.
University/Community Event: NISGUA has lots of great videos on Guatemala, which can be used to raise awareness or even funds. Make it a potluck and you may be able to include a lot more people in the planning. For a list of available videos, visit www.nisgua.org
Candlelight Vigil: Pick a prominent place, gather some friends and lots of candles, and hold a vigil in memory of those killed in the massacres that took place during 1982.
For more information on this campaign, please visit: www.nisgua.org or contact NISGUA at nisgua@igc.org or 202-518-7638.
The National Day of Action is also sponsored by Amnesty InternationalUSA ( www.amnesty-usa.org ) and the Guatemala Human Rights Commission ( www.ghrc-usa.org ).
