Carlos Gomez Lopez, a trade union leader, was pulled from a bus by the Guatemalan military at this location, near Quetzaltenango, in 1993. He was shot and left for dead .  He didn't die.  Instead, he has pressed his case against the Guatemalan government.  The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights has ruled in his favor against the Guatemalan Government.
