Voices of the Americas is a multicultural series that aims at bridging the gap between distinct social justice struggles in the Chicago area, with a special emphasis on Latin America.
The series begins this April 30, with a celebration of the struggle of the Puerto Rican people to achieve their independece. The opening: "Noche Boricua" will feature:
The renowed Puerto Rican folkloric bomba-plena group Cocobale
Puerto Rican poet Eduardo Rocha
Director of the Puerto Rican Cultural Center, José Lopez.
Also performing that day will be:
Cuerdas Clasicas Mexican Strings
Konojel Junam Mayan Dance
Voices of the Americas features local visual, musical and word artists who are dedicated to a just and equal, multicultural, multilingual society.
